Foot Metatarsal Fracture

This patient is a marathon runner with severe foot pain. The MRI scan reveals a fracture of the second metatarsal bone (one of the long bones of the foot). This fracture was caused by the repetitive, increased stress placed on the bone due to training for a marathon. MRI can reveal such stress fractures, and can also help diagnose tendon problems, ligament tears, and other problems of the foot and ankle.
